For Viviana, this wedding evening was supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life. She was seven months pregnant and tried to ignore her tiredness, because today her husband’s younger brother was getting married. She had prepared a gift for the newlyweds in advance, chosen a beautiful dress, and even helped her mother-in-law organize the banquet.

But just minutes before the ceremony began, in the huge hall where more than two hundred guests had gathered, the wedding rings disappeared. They were supposed to be placed on the fingers of Viviana’s brother-in-law and his bride during the ceremony. At first, everyone assumed the rings had simply been misplaced. But a few minutes later, Viviana’s mother-in-law turned sharply toward her.

“You were the last one to go into the room where they were kept. Where are the rings?”

These words wounded Viviana more than anything else. She could still understand suspicion from strangers, but she couldn’t accept that her own husband wasn’t even trying to defend her. Her mother-in-law tore the bag from her hands, and the new sister-in-law started pulling out its contents right in front of the guests. After these words, Viviana’s father said nothing in reply. He only asked her to stay where she was and not get into any more conflicts with anyone.

Ten minutes later, several patrol cars pulled up at the entrance. Police officers walked into the hall along with Viviana’s lawyer. The mother-in-law immediately tried to explain that the rings had disappeared and that her daughter-in-law might have stolen them.

But the lawyer calmly asked to review the security camera footage.

When the video was played on the big screen, the hall fell silent.

The footage showed the new sister-in-law entering the room alone shortly before the rings disappeared. A few minutes later, the mother-in-law walked in as well. It was right after that that they left together, and then began accusing Viviana.
