Can a Powder Really Remove Cataracts in 15 Minutes?

  • by

A dramatic claim is circulating online: one spoonful of a green powder supposedly clears cataracts from both eyes within 15 minutes and can even replace cataract surgery. While the image may look convincing, this claim should be treated with extreme caution.

A cataract occurs when the normally clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. This can lead to blurry or hazy vision, difficulty seeing at night, glare around lights, faded colors, and increasing difficulty reading or performing everyday activities.

The important point is that a cataract is not simply a layer of dirt or a temporary film sitting on the surface of the eye. The natural lens itself has become cloudy. Eating a particular powder cannot be expected to make an established cataract disappear within minutes.

Cataract surgery remains the established treatment when a cataract significantly interferes with vision. During the procedure, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. Modern cataract surgery is commonly performed as an outpatient procedure, but whether surgery is appropriate depends on an individual eye examination and how much the cataract affects daily life.

That does not mean nutrition is unimportant. A balanced diet can support general eye health. Foods such as leafy green vegetables, colorful fruits and vegetables, fish containing omega-3 fatty acids, nuts, seeds, and other nutrient-rich foods can be part of a healthy eating pattern.

However, there is an important difference between supporting eye health and reversing an established cataract. A nutritional supplement or household powder should not be presented as a replacement for an ophthalmologist’s evaluation or cataract surgery.
