Garlic has been used in traditional cooking and home remedies for generations. Its strong flavor comes from sulfur-containing compounds, particularly allicin, which forms when fresh garlic is crushed or chopped. While garlic is not a miracle cure and eating it before bed does not guarantee dramatic health changes, adding a small amount of fresh garlic to your diet can be a simple way to enjoy its nutritional benefits.
If you want to try garlic at night, there is no need to swallow a whole clove. A gentler approach is to crush a small clove and combine it with a little honey, then take it with or after food.
Ingredients
- 1 small fresh garlic clove
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Optional: a small glass of warm water
- Optional: a pinch of cinnamon for flavor
Step 1: Choose fresh garlic
Select a firm garlic clove without soft spots, mold, or discoloration. Fresh garlic has a stronger flavor and aroma than garlic that has been stored for a long time.
Step 2: Peel the garlic
Remove the papery outer skin and rinse the clove briefly if necessary. Pat it dry before preparing it.
Step 3: Crush the garlic
Place the clove on a cutting board and crush it with the flat side of a knife. You can also mince it finely.
Crushing or chopping garlic helps form allicin, one of the compounds responsible for garlic’s characteristic smell and flavor.
Step 4: Let it sit briefly
After crushing the garlic, let it stand for several minutes before eating it. This allows the chemical reactions that occur after crushing to take place.
Step 5: Add a little honey
