My wife left me with blind twins – 18 years later, she came back with a request

offering them full scholarships for their costume design program. They wanted Emma and Clara not because of some far-fetched story, but because their costume designs were truly exceptional.

They are now working on real productions.

Her attempt at redemption

backfired so spectacularly

that she became an example.

Yesterday, I was on set watching Emma adjust an actress’s collar while Clara pinned a hem. They moved with confidence, their hands steady and skillful.

The director approached me, smiling. « Your girls are incredibly talented. We’re lucky to have them. »

« I’m the lucky one, » I said proudly.

He nodded and then turned back to his camera.

Emma sensed I was standing there and called out, « Dad, how’s it going? » “Perfect,” I said, my eyes brimming with emotion. “Just like you.”

“Your daughters are incredibly talented.

We’re so lucky to have them.”

Last night, we were sitting in our apartment (the same cramped space Lauren had mocked), eating takeout and laughing at some silly thing Clara had said on set.

It was wealth and success. It was all that mattered.

Lauren had chosen fame and found emptiness. We chose each other.

We chose each other.

My daughters didn’t need designer dresses.

They needed someone who would stay when things got tough, who would teach them to see beauty without looking, who would love them for exactly who they were.

My daughters didn’t need designer dresses.
